The idea behind the project
Our first internship program has come to an end. It lasted for 7 months and started with 50% engagement of our 3 interns, which was gradually increasing over time. In mid-September, all our interns have become full-time Test Consultants.
The idea of the internship was to introduce more women into the world of testing and the IT domain in general. Our aim was to develop inhouse testing experts and at the same time contribute to closing the gender gap in the tech industry. Our amazing interns worked hard, exceeded our expectations, and proved that they will be a great addition to our team.
The true agile internship – adapting to changing requirements
The internship started with a thorough plan of the training, with regular remote training sessions. The trainees had a chance to learn about test theory, test management, some crucial QA tools, and our unique agile software testing methodology approach. Soon, in the true spirit of agile, our internship program leader, Augustyn, impressed by our interns’ potential and results, decided to adjust the plan, and offer them to work on live client projects at Sixsentix. And what a decision it was!
The participants had a great opportunity to implement everything they have been learning about, and very soon, they demonstrated that practice does make perfect. They could see, examine, and test everything they had learned about and turn what might have seemed like abstract concepts into action with visible effects.
And seven months later, here we are – we have got three more testing experts at Sixsentix Poland. Our interns are no longer interns but actual test consultants, with a solid command of testing foundations and automation practices. Our new colleagues are now moving forward, extending their knowledge of automation by diving deep into Python, Selenium, and BDD. Moreover, they are gaining a better understanding of key open-source tools used for performance, load and penetration testing. Best of all, they are becoming more and more independent, with only minimal supervision from experienced test consultants.
Career development future is bright at Sixsentix
Driven by the positive outcome of the first edition, Sixsentix Poland is already launching a second internship program, this time doubling the number of participants. Just like our previous interns, the new ones will learn fundamental QA skills as well, but based on the exceptional former experience, we decided to expand the program and teach them how to work with Tosca, one of the central testing tools used in our company. However, if they happen to show the same amount of competence and enthusiasm, we can expect our agile mentors to surprise them with new responsibilities and opportunities to grow faster than they might have expected.
As for Sixsentix, we could not be happier with the grit and team spirit demonstrated by our new colleagues. You combine that with trust, ownership, breaking the limits, and continuous improvement, and you will get some true Sixsentixers out there.
We hope that all future internships will be as successful as this one and that they will bring us even more amazing new people. Given the passion and expertise of our mentor and the entire Polish team, we do not have any doubts about this.
