A case study in agile onboarding

Three months flew by: why we picked Sixsentix

Dan Macek, Ellen Kronstam Sixsentix Culture

Even before our very first day, we had a good understanding of what kind of company Sixsentix is: An agile company where each employee is trusted and given the opportunity to be autonomous, a company without any strict rules or hierarchies where everyone is encouraged to speak their mind and drive their own initiatives. What we didn’t know is how this would play out in reality. Does this really work? And how would we like this environment? Before the end of the first week, we already knew it was the perfect fit.

Autonomous onboarding thanks to Jira

On our very first day, we were warmly welcomed with breakfast  by all our new colleagues at the office in Altstetten. We were both introduced to all Teams, but also to the tools and systems that Sixsentix works with, in particular Jira. Here, we could not only keep track of all the work that our colleagues perform to develop and improve the business of Sixsentix, but also drive our own onboarding. One Jira epic was prepared for each of us, with all the onboarding tasks for us to carry out at our own pace; everything from doing trainings for competence development reasons, admin tasks, meeting new people and learning how to master the office’s espresso machine (Never neglect the coffee machine!). This is a clear sign of how autonomous we were able to be from day one already: Planning our own onboarding in our preferred way and being trusted to carry out all the tasks without anyone else having to follow up with us.

Starting off with a bang: Travelling to visit the nearshore centers in Serbia as early as day one

Later in our first day, we also got to travel to Serbia to visit Sixsentix’s nearshore centers in Belgrade and Novi Sad. This was a great opportunity to meet and get to know our consultants working there and better understand Sixsentix value proposition and service delivery model, which is dependent on our highly skilled Serbian consultants. Three days in Serbia followed, with everything from trainings and info sessions, to many social events to facilitate future collaboration.

Being involved and included from day one – quickly becoming autonomous and being accountable for our own tasks and projects

One thing that both of us really appreciate is the fact that we have been involved and included in meetings and discussions from day one. Sixsentix doesn’t try and make you think that the company is 100% perfect. And let’s be honest, which company is? Instead, everyone has been open about ongoing work to improve internal topics, and our opinions and ideas have always been welcomed and appreciated.

This made us feel trusted and as a natural part of the company and all the discussions. We’re super happy that we are working for an employer that values our thoughts and allows us to have an impact on the organization.

Our trip to Serbia, and getting engaged from the very beginning, has truly accelerated our onboarding process and made us become autonomous and feel ownership early on. This, together with a super supportive atmosphere where all colleagues help out when needed and are engaged in your success, has been very rewarding and makes every day at the office something to look forward to. Since none of us come from a background within testing and quality assurance, this has also truly accelerated our learning on the topic and understanding of how critical quality assurance is for development teams.

Get in touch with us if you found this interesting!

We look forward to establishing a connection with you and learning more about the development challenges you face. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can ensure a more high-quality development process with our testing and quality assurance services.
